Jane Geeson: Hi Christine,  Thanks for your like!   This piece is on steel and it was made by firing black wet process and then applying white wet process which was left to dry and then drawn into.  It was very popular and I ended up making 4of them.  Jane

    Hi Christine

I would not use my enamel kiln for firing bronze or copper clay - The stainless steel container seems to shed a lot of black oxide and covers the kiln - I bought a small paragon expressly for firing copper and bronze - You CAN use your enamel kiln for fine Silver metal clay without any residue left behind and you can lay your clay on firing cloth.

    Hope this helps,

    Trish

    Hi Trish,

Thanks for the metal clay advice! I don't think I will be exposing my enamel kiln to a steel firing pan. I'm excited to try some silver, though.

Have you ever tried using Art Clay Copper? It's a copper clay that apparently doesn't need carbon for firing. I've heard people say it works quite well (and doesn't make such a mess) but I'm still a bit wary after seeing the dirty black kiln at the bead shop the other day.

    Thanks,

    Christine

in the topic Old Slöjd Detaljer Enamels? in the forum General Discussions

Has anyone heard of Slöjd Detaljer enamels? I was recently given a few jars of some old enamel powder, granules, and thread-type stringer. I couldn't find much information about the enamel, and it looks like the products the company now sells are not glass-based, but are instead a lower temperature melting plastic or something similar. Did the company make leaded or unleaded glass enamel at some point??

    Thanks for you help!!!

in the topic Milton Bridge Lead-Free Transparent Enamel? in the forum General Discussions

Has anyone tried Milton Bridge Lead-free transparent enamels? I've only worked with Thompson so far, and I was wondering if anyone here had used both types? I found some lovely red listings and I'm tempted since Thompson enamel doesn't seem to have a truly red transparent colour (though they do have nice oranges and pinks). I'm assuming the brands are compatible with each other, since they are both lead-free...

in the topic Replying to Topics? in the forum General Discussions

    Hi Trish,

I was just wondering what the new protocol is for replying to posts. I don't see a reply button or any option to continue a discussion when a topic is posted. For example, Leszek Adrian seemed to need to post the new topic, 'Christine', in order to be able to respond to my previous post 'Topics, replies, and the recent activity bar'. I see that you were able to post a reply to topics - is that because you are the website moderator, or have I missed something?

Should I be posting in a different way, or on a different part of the website? I have just assumed that discussions would take place in the 'Forum' section. I would have posted this question as a reply to my previous topic if I had figured out a way. Sorry for all the questions and new topics.

    Thanks for your help,

    Christine

in the topic Topics, replies, and the recent activity bar in the forum General Discussions

I'm posting this topic to see if it will display correctly. I have also had some trouble finding the option to 'reply' to topics posted by others. Is anyone else finding that posting or replying is difficult on the new site? I found a 'post comment' option on Trish's blog post 'Shout out fom Karen Cohen', but the option seems to be missing from other posts in the Forum.

Has anyone posted anything new since June 20th? I find it hard to believe that a photo I uploaded was the only activity that has occurred since then on this shiny new site. The left activity panel has been displaying my photo upload as the most recent activity for days now. I hope people are trying out the new site!

    Christine
