Shop Charles Winkel

  • March 14, 2013

My shop is a 18' X 10' brick garage built in 1920. It gets to 120 degrees in the summer and maybe 20 degrees in the winter. Air conditioning is a window and gable fan. Heat, are two propane heaters, and electric catalectic heaters. I share my space with my work tools. At least I don't have to go far to get what I need. In the Sumer I open the window for air and place a box fan in it. If I don't use the box fan my spray booth dust will reenter through the window because of my gable fan. Aw it's great to be an enamellist. What we put our selves through for the sake of art and no money. Charles Winkel

    Charles,

What is that set up I see where the leaves are sitting on a great and there appears to be heat from underneath? is this a drying unit? What the heck do you do in the winter where gloves and ear muffs while you are working?? You are one brave man!

What your looking at is my kiln. The white cradles you see are being put into my kiln. After three minutes there pulled out and that why there black. You can see my fork I use to for my kiln. In the last picture you can see the top of my kiln. It's furnace blanked. The first set of three pictures shows my kiln in it's entirety with the counter weight. I get jealous when I see these spacious well organized studios. 2 thirds of my studio is shared with my masonry supplies, and parts.
